KCE Structural Engineers, PC was founded over thirty nine years ago by Allyn E. Kilsheimer, P.E.. Over the years KCE has taken particular pride in its track record of providing its clients with structural designs that meet their respective needs and are both economical and, if needed, innovative.

With a total staff of over thirty, and complete in-house CADD (computer design/drafting) and data processing equipment, the firm has completed structural design of public and private projects with a construction value of over 35 billion dollars. Our work has concentrated in the mid-Atlantic region of the USA, with other major projects throughout the United States. We have also been commissioned to provide structural services for a number of overseas projects in five countries, most recently in Beirut, Lebanon.

KCE's experience encompasses the full range of structural engineering services, from predesign consultation through design to construction phase services.

Our projects have utilized all types of construction including, but not limited to, poured-in-place mild steel reinforced concrete, steel frame, composite steel, masonry wall-bearing, post-tensioned concrete, etc., for a wide variety of uses including but not limited to, design to suit, mixed use projects, office buildings, hotels and apartment buildings, warehouses, commercial buildings, parking facilities, hospitals, historic facilities and religious facilities, including several thousand single family homes.

We have developed specialized structural systems such as: hammerhead brackets, piggyback girders, iron cross columns, and the widely used sloped columns, as well as side by side girders and composite concrete and steel Vierendeel trusses.

In addition to our extensive concrete design experience, many projects we have designed have utilized structural steel, including conventional structural steel, composite structural steel, structural steel with bar joists, stub girders, and staggered trusses.

KCE is also experienced in the design of heavy and light timber structures, light gauge metal structures and in the use of space frame systems, and structural glass wall systems.

Our projects have utilized various foundation types, including spread footings on rock and soil, pressure injected footings, mild steel reinforced mat foundations, post-tensioned mat foundations, steel H piles, pipe piles, step-tapered piles, slurry walls and caissons.

We are able to work effectively with Architects on Projects to develop a structural scheme that will accommodate the most stringent aesthetic, environmental and functional requirements, without sacrificing cost effectiveness.
